good web fonts
Lively, subtle, perfectly legible fonts for the web.

Some lovely fonts that almost made it.
Lively and subtle, they lack legibility.

Andron Regular

An old-style serif font by Andreas Stötzner. Andron Regular has a small x-height and small counters (particularly the closed counters in the lowercase a and e). Available for free download at www.signographie.de, Andron Regular is truly a lovely font, but is difficult to read on screen, even at 16px.

Droid Sans

Droid Sans is a slightly condensed sans serif font from The Android Open Source Project. It’s loose letterspacing affects readability at larger text sizes. At 13px and smaller readability improves and legibility holds up, so I'd consider it for small amounts of text. Available for free download at fontsquirrel.com. Also available for free download is Droid Bold, which has even looser letterspacing!

Serif 72 Beta

A font by Christian Robertson (Betatype). Although Serif 72 Beta has a generous x-height, the thin strokes and serifs are extremely delicate. The thick strokes create a slight vertical pull, interfering with reading. The font is more legible at 15px and larger, but the texture is stilted. What makes the font so beautiful at 42px gets lost at text sizes on screen. Available for free download at Betatype. Italic and bold versions are also available.
